PHILADELPHIA — Temple made 53.2 percent of its field goal attempts in an 81-62 win over East Carolina at the Liacouras Center on Saturday afternoon.
Five players scored in double figures for the Owls, who improved to 10-7 overall and 1-3 in the American Athletic Conference.
The Pirates (9-8, 1-3) were led by Kentrell Barkley with nine points and six rebounds.
Barkley’s 3-point play provided the margin of victory for the Pirates in a 64-61 win in Greenville on Jan. 27 in the team’s previous meeting last season.
ECU came back from a 10-4 deficit Saturday to lead 14-12 on a basket by Michel Nzege with 10:15 left in the first half.
Temple went ahead to stay at 15-14 with 9:53 remaining in the opening period on a 3-pointer by Quinton Rose.
The Owls led 40-34 at the half and used a 10-2 run for a 62-48 advantage midway through the second half.
The hosts made 17 of 26 field goal attempts after intermission, a sizzling 65.4 percent.
Daniel Dingle had 19 points in the win. Ernest Aflakpui added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Temple got 14 points from Rose, 13 from Mark Williams and 12 from Obi Enechionyia.
Dingle’s effort also included six assists and three steals as the Owls stopped a three-game losing streak.
Deng Riak, B.J. Tyson and Jeremy Sheppard had eight points each for the Pirates, who dropped their third in a row. Elijah Hughes had seven points and four assists.
Andre Washington and Nzege each had six points. Washington blocked three shots.
Caleb White and Jabari Craig each had four points. Raquan Wilkins added two points.
Riak had four rebounds as Temple held a 34-27 lead on the boards.
ECU committed nine turnovers compared to 11 for the hosts.
Houston visits the Pirates on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Owls make a return trip to ECU on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
