GREENVILLE — The shooting touch that was missing for East Carolina on Sunday at James Madison was found on Tuesday night in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum as the Pirates won 98-71 over South Carolina State.

ECU (8-5) jumped out to leads of 13-2 and 21-4 against the Bulldogs (5-8).

The Pirates made 30 of 52 field goal attempts (68 percent), nine of 14 behind the arc (64.3 percent) and 15 of 16 free throws in building a 58-31 halftime lead.

Caleb White led the way with 21 points, B.J. Tyson scored all 20 of his points in the first 20 minutes and Charles Foster added five 3-pointers for 15 points.

ECU made just 34.4 percent of its field goal attempts in a 67-61 loss at JMU.

"We made everything tonight," said Pirates coach Jeff Lebo.

ECU finished 16 for 30 from long distance.

Going into the season, the American Athletic Conference record for 3-pointers in a game was 16, held by three teams.

The previous season high in the AAC was 14 by Southern Methodist against New Hampshire on Dec. 5.

Kentrell Barkley had six rebounds as the Pirates led 40-22 on the boards. Mike Zangari, Clarence Williams and Grant Bryant grabbed five each.

Lance Tejada had six assists. Prince Williams had nine points and five assists. White had five assists.

Clarence Williams scored eight points and Michel Nzege added seven points.

A total of 14 players saw action for ECU, which takes a break before starting league play at home against Central Florida (6-4) on Saturday, Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.
