Pirates rally past Monmouth

GREENVILLE — East Carolina
scored three runs in the last two innings to top Monmouth 4-3 on Friday
night.
With the score tied at 3 with one out
in the bottom of the ninth, Parker Lamm singled up the middle for the
Pirates.
Charlie Yorgen's double put Lamm at
third. He came home on a wild pitch for the game-ending run.
ECU (12-6) was down 3-1 going to the
bottom of the eighth. Eric Tyler and Luke Bolka had singles. They moved
into scoring position on a fly to center by Dwanya Williams-Sutton.
Freshman Turner Brown delivered a two-run single with two down to tie
the score.
Joe Ingle (3-2) pitched the last two
innings for the win. He allowed two hits, an earned run and struck out
three without a walk.
Evan Krucynski started and went seven
innings. He yielded eight hits and two earned runs. The junior lefty
walked one and struck out three.
Monmouth (6-10) took a 1-0 lead in
the first as Dan Shea had a single to score Grant Lamberton, who opened
the game with a double.
Shaine Hughes singled to score Robbie
Allessandrine, who had doubled, for a 2-0 Hawks lead in the fifth.
The Pirates got a run back in the
bottom of the fifth after Jeff Nelson singled with one out. Lamm had a
hit to move Nelson to third. Yorgen's sacrifice bunt scored Nelson as
ECU closed within 2-1.
Hughes doubled in the eighth and went
to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Shea to push
the Hawks' advantage back to 2 runs.
James Kelly (0-1) pitched the last
inning and one-third for Monmouth and took the loss.
Lamm, Yorgen and Williams-Sutton each
had two hits for the Pirates.
The second matchup in the three-game
series is scheduled for 4 p.m. today at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
