GREENVILLE —  Garrett Brooks, Charlie Yorgen and Luke Bolka each had two hits with an RBI as East Carolina defeated George Mason 8-1 on Tuesday.

The Pirates are ranked in five polls this week, including No. 16 by D1Baseball.com. ECU improved to 9-3 while the Patriots, who took a 1-0 lead in their first turn at the plate, slipped to 2-9.

The Pirates evened the score in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Bryce Harman that scored Brooks, who had led off with a single.

Two runs in the second put ECU on top to stay. Doubles by Bolka and Brooks produced the go-ahead run. Yorgen's RBI double provided a 3-1 lead.

Wesley Phillips homered to left field to start the Pirates in the fourth. Jeff Nelson singled and stole his way to third. Nelson scored on a wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.

Kirk Morgan and Bolka had RBI singles in the fifth for a 7-1 ECU advantage.

Ryan Littlefield tripled in the eighth for the Pirates and scored on a double play for the final run.

Freshman right-hander Chris Holba (2-0) made his first start and went three innings for the win. He allowed two hits and one earned run while walking one and striking out two.

Sophomore righty Evan Voliva turned in four solid innings, yielding three hits. Freshman righty Matt Bridges pitched the last two frames. He gave up one hit and had one strikeout.

ECU outhit the Patriots, 12-6.
