GREENVILLE —  Two East Carolina errors in the top of the first inning helped Tennessee to a 3-0 lead and the Volunteers went on to take a 5-2 win in the Keith LeClair Classic on Saturday.

Three of Tennessee's runs were unearned as the Pirates committed four errors.

ECU (7-3) stranded 11.

"We had bases loaded twice with one out and didn't get anything to show for it," said Pirates coach Cliff Godwin.

ECU left the sacks filled in the first and the fourth against Vols starter Zach Warren (3-0), a sophomore left-hander who walked two and struck out seven in six and two-thirds innings.

A sacrifice fly by Jordan Rodgers extended Tennessee's lead to 4-0 in the sixth.

The Pirates cut the lead to 4-2 in the seventh. Turner Brown led off with a single to center. Charlie Yorgen singled with one out. Eric Tyler brought in two runs with a double to right.

Rodgers singled in the last run of the game in the eighth for his third RBI of the game.

Jacob Wolfe (2-1) pitched seven innings for the Pirates. He yielded seven hits and four runs, one earned, with no walks and two strikeouts.

Davis Kirkpatrick pitched the last two innings for ECU. He allowed three hits and one earned run with no walks and no whiffs.

Jon Lipinski pitched the ninth for the Volunteers (7-2) for his third save.

A crowd of 2,984 was on hand at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Terps win again

Maryland won its second game in the LeClair event by topping Southeastern Louisiana 8-1 in the first game on Saturday. Freshman Marty Costes had a 3-run homer for Maryland (5-4) and finished with four RBIs. The Lions dropped to 5-5 going into an 11 a.m. game with Tennessee today.

ECU meets the Terps at 3:30 this afternoon. Maryland is 2-0 in the round robin format. The Pirates and Tennessee are each 1-1. Southeastern Louisiana is 0-2.
