CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — Luke
Bolka had a 3-run homer and finished with four RBIs to lead East
Carolina to a 6-1 victory at Virginia on Saturday for a series win over
the defending College World Series champions.
The Pirates improved to 6-0 and go
for the series sweep at 1 p.m. today. Virginia, ranked No. 8 by the
National College Baseball Writers Association, fell to 3-3.
ECU followed up on
an 8-5 win in 10 innings on Friday by taking a 3-0
lead on Bolka's blast to left with Dwanya Williams-Sutton and Eric Tyler
on base.
Williams-Sutton scored on a ground
out by Bolka in the fourth as the Pirates took a 4-0 lead.
A triple by Williams-Sutton scored
Tyler for a 5-0 ECU advantage in the sixth. A line-out to left by Wes
Phillips allowed Williams-Sutton to score later in the inning to push
the Pirates' lead to 6-0.
The Cavaliers scored an unearned run
in the bottom of the sixth.
Williams-Sutton, a freshman, finished
3-for-3 with a pair of triples to lead an 8-hit attack.
Travis Watkins had two hits with a
double.
Jacob Wolfe (2-0) went six innings.
He allowed four hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Wolfe's pitch
count reached 91 with 62 strikes. Nick Durazo picked up his first save
with three innings of work. He allowed two hits while striking out
three. Durazo delivered 38 pitches with 27 in the zone.
