GREENVILLE — East Carolina
outhit North Carolina A&T 15-5 in an 11-2 nonconference win on Tuesday
afternoon.
The game was originally scheduled for
Wednesday but was moved up due to the threat of severe weather today.
Charlie Yorgen had a career-high four
hits as the Pirates improved to 4-0.
ECU scored six runs in the bottom of
the first and never trailed the 0-4 Aggies.
Parker Lamm walked to start the
initial frame and Yorgen followed with a bunt single. A double steal put
runners at second and third. Travis Watkins walked to load the bases
before Bryce Harman delivered a triple to left center for a 3-0 Pirates
lead.
Dwanya Williams-Sutton had an RBI
double with one out for a 4-0 advantage. A run-scoring triple by Garrett
Brooks put ECU ahead, 5-0.
Brooks scored on a wild pitch.
That was plenty of run support as the
Pirates spread the mound duties between six pitchers. Kirk Morgan
started, went three innings and was credited with the win.
Morgan allowed runs in the second and
third before Evan Voliva tossed two scoreless innings. Sam Lanier, Chris
Holba, Matt Bridges and Cam Colmore each worked an inning. ECU pitchers
recorded 11 strikeouts and issued one walk. The Pirates were errorless
in the field.
Brooks finished 3-for-3 with a double
and a triple.
Lamm and Williams-Sutton each had two
hits.
A crowd of 1,999 took in the midweek
contest.
ECU starts a three-game series at
defending College World Series champion Virginia (3-1) at 3 p.m. on
Friday.
