DALLAS — Southern Methodist had
an 8-0 run at the end of the first half to overcome a 35-28 East
Carolina lead Sunday afternoon and the host Mustangs went on to take a
74-63 American Athletic Conference win.
It was a significantly more
competitive effort for the Pirates than a 79-55 loss to SMU in
Greenville on Jan. 15 but it didn't keep ECU from dropping to 10-17
overall and 2-12 in the AAC.
The Pirates lost their sixth straight
game despite a 20-point effort by Prince Williams. The senior point
guard made four of five behind the arc as ECU went 12-for-24 (50
percent) on 3-pointers.
Kentrell Barkley also dropped four of
five from long range as he registered 15 points. Barkley also
contributed eight rebounds and four assists.
Caleb White had 14 points and four
assists.
Clarence Williams had six points and
Mike Zangari scored five.
B.J. Tyson was limited to two points
on a dunk but had a team-high six assists.
The Pirates were outrebounded 41-17
and struggled at the free throw line, hitting just five of 13.
Nic Moore led SMU (22-4, 10-4) with
22 points and seven assists. Markus Kennedy had 19 points and nine
rebounds for the Mustangs. Jordan Tolbert had 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Shake Milton finished with 10 points.
ECU visits Tulane for an 8 p.m.
tipoff on Wednesday. The Green Wave (10-17, 3-11) took a 100-92 win in
triple overtime in Greenville on Feb. 10.
