Scottie Montgomery's
staff continued to grow on Tuesday as East Carolina's first-year coach
announced the hiring of Middle Tennessee State assistant Geep Wade and
Duke staffer Ethan Johnson.
Wade
will coach the Pirates offensive line, the same role he carried out for
the Blue Raiders the last three seasons. MTSU's offense during his
tenure ranked ranked among the nation's passing and rushing leaders.
The 2002
Chattanooga graduate's previous coaching stops included Marshall and
Chattanooga.
Wade is married to the former Amy
Howell of McKenzie, TN. The couple has two children, Emma Kate and
Jackson.
Johnson will serve as ECU's director
of player personnel. He
spent the last 10 years as assistant director of player personnel for
the Blue Devils, with significant responsibilities in all aspects of
recruiting.
The 2005
Liberty grad served alongside Montgomery and recently-named ECU
assistant AD for football operations Terrell Smith during stretches of
his stint in Durham.
Wade and Johnson join seven previously-announced staff hires since Montgomery's
appointment to succeed Ruffin McNeill as head coach of the Pirates:
Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach
Tony Petersen (previously
served in that same capacity at Louisiana Tech)
Defensive coordinator
Kenwick Thompson (previously served as
Vanderbilt associate head coach
and linebackers coach)
Defensive line coach Deke Adams (previously served in the same role
at South Carolina)
Wide receivers coach Phil McGeoghan (previously served in the same
role for the Miami Dolphins)
Secondary coach Rick Smith (previously served as defensive
coordinator and secondary coach on former ECU coach Ruffin McNeill's
staff)
Special teams coach Shannon Moore (previously served as special
teams coach at Florida International)
Assistant athletics director for football operations Terrell Smith
(previously served as
director of football operations at Duke)
