ECU gets untracked, downs Rattlers

GREENVILLE — After trailing winless
Florida A&M 29-27 at the half, East Carolina outscored the Rattlers
48-28 after intermission for a 75-57 nonconference win at Williams Arena
in Minges Coliseum on Monday night.
ECU was led by Caleb White with 19
points as the Pirates improved to 6-6. Michel-Ofik Nzege added 14 points
and a team-high six rebounds.
Freshman B.J. Tyson had 11 points off
the bench. Paris Roberts-Campbell added eight points in a reserve role
in his second game back from a knee injury.
Mike Zangari had six points and five
rebounds in 19 minutes as ECU had a 36-34 rebounding advantage.
Terry Whisnant was limited to five
points as he went one for six on field goal tries and missed all four of
his 3-point attempts. He offset his shooting struggles with four
assists.
Kanu Aja had four points in nine
minutes.
The Pirates made 28 of 64 field goal
attempts for 43.8 percent and were 12 of 16 at the line for 75 percent.
ECU was seven of 23 behind the arc for 30.4 percent.
ECU committed 11 turnovers compared
to 18 for Florida A&M (0-11).
Nine players contributed to the
Pirates' 12 steals.
Nzege made a hook shot to put ECU
ahead to stay at 42-40 with 15:38 remaining. ECU closed with a 24-8 run
over the last 9:34.
Guard Jermaine Ruttley had 16 points,
six rebounds and four assists for the Rattlers. Craig Bowman added 13 in
the setback.
The Pirates have a break for
Christmas before hosting UNC-Greensboro on Sunday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m.
ECU is 5-1 at home.
