Fifteen Questions for Terry Whisnant

Akeem Richmond may be gone but Terry Whisnant is set to continue East Carolina's outside shooting prowess. Whisnant transferred from Florida State after averaging 2.1 points and 7.7 minutes for a Seminoles team that won the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament his freshman year. His numbers at FSU improved to 5.2 points and 17.2 minutes as a sophomore when he made 35.6 percent of his 3-point tries. Whisnant scored a career-high 16 at Auburn.

He practiced with the Pirates during 2013-14 while sitting out according to NCAA transfer rules. Today (Nov. 5) marks the 22nd birthday for the communications major. His dad, Terry Whisnant Jr., played linebacker at North Carolina.

Terry took time to talk with Bonesville before practice Tuesday afternoon.

Q: Favorite restaurant in Greenville?

A: Cheddar's.

Q: Favorite TV show?

A: 'Family Guy.'

Q: What led to your decision to transfer to ECU?

A: Coach (Jeff) Lebo, and having a great relationship with Paris (Roberts-Campbell) and a lot of the other guys.

Q: What do you expect your role to be this season?

A: I expect to be a scorer, but that's not all I want to do. I want to do all of the little things.

Q: How would you compare the coaching styles of Jeff Lebo and Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton?

A: Coach Ham keeps the same face the whole game and Coach Lebo stomps his foot a little bit more... that's about it.

Q: How difficult was it for you to sit out last year?

A: It was really difficult — going from playing every year to having to sit down and take a breath — it was really difficult.

Q: How excited are you to play in the AAC?

A: I'm really excited. I know we're the underdogs and we take that as a challenge. We're really looking forward to going out and playing every game.

Q: What do you enjoy doing besides basketball?

A: I like to play Call of Duty and I enjoy bowling.

Q: What is the most difficult challenge you face as a student-athlete?

A: Probably just finding time to do things. You don't have too much of a social life, because you're always working with your teammates, trying to get better.

Q: How do the basketball facilities at East Carolina compare to Florida State?

A: It's totally different. At East Carolina, we've put in a lot of new things and we're up and coming. Florida State has more as of right now, but we're slowly building up.

Q: What is your favorite basketball memory?

A: Dunking on a guy and scoring 46 points in the same game in high school. I don't remember who we were playing.

Q: Who has been the most influential person in your life?

A: My mom and my dad, my sisters... pretty much just my family.

Q: What part of your game do you feel needs the most work?

A: I feel like it's the mental part of the game, with me. That's what I need to work on. Of course I need to work on other things and perfect my craft, but my toughest thing is probably my mindset.

Q: How excited are you to play your first game as an East Carolina Pirate?

A: I'm really excited to play in front of the "Minges Maniacs" and just get out there and run up and down the court with my teammates.

Q: What is your favorite thing about East Carolina?

A: The fan base, Pirate Nation. It's just great to be here.
