HOUSTON — Houston moved into first place in the American Athletic Conference with a 11-1 win in seven innings over visiting East Carolina on Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars (35-17, 13-8 AAC), ranked No. 21, moved into a one-game lead over the Pirates (32-20, 12-9) in the league standings by taking the series two games to one.

AAC regular season play concludes next weekend with Houston hosting Connecticut and ECU traveling to Cincinnati.

Seth Romero went the route for Houston, allowing just two hits. His shutout bid was spoiled by an Eric Tyler home run in the fifth. The Cougar southpaw walked four and struck out six.

Corey Julks had a three-run homer in Houston's six-run fifth inning.

A three-run homer by Ashford Fulmer gave the Cougars a 4-0 lead in the second.

Charlie Yorgen had the only other hit for the Pirates to lead off the fourth.

Houston opened the series with a 10-1 win on Friday.

The Pirates bounced back for a 4-1 victory on the CBS Sports Network on Saturday as Reid Love (6-3) pitched eight innings and Joe Ingle recorded his fourth save. Luke Lowery and Bryce Harman belted homers on Saturday for the Pirates, who knocked four out of Cougar Field over the weekend.

ECU hosts Elon (24-26) in a nonconference contest at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Pirates swept a three-game series on the road from the Phoenix on March 13-15.

Elon dropped two of three at home to Delaware over the weekend to slip to 13-11 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
