GREENVILLE — Charlie Yorgen and Bryce Harman hit home runs in support of winning pitcher Jacob Wolfe as East Carolina topped Connecticut 5-2 on Sunday at Clark-LeClair Stadium to take the American Athletic Conference series two games to one and maintain a tie for first in the league standings with Houston.

Yorgen had a two-run homer in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 ECU lead. It was the third roundtripper of his sophomore season.

After the Huskies (29-20, 8-10 AAC) tied the score at 2, Harman launched his fifth circuit clout of the year in the bottom of the second to put the Pirates ahead to stay at 3-2.

An RBI single by Travis Watkins in the sixth gave ECU a 4-2 lead, scoring Reid Love, who led off the frame with a single to left.

Eric Tyler's sacrifice fly in the eighth accounted for the last run of the day for the Pirates. It scored Travis Watkins, who had doubled and moved to third on a ground out by Harman.

Wolfe (4-1) allowed three hits over seven innings. One of those was a two-run single in the second by Aaron Hill of the Huskies.

Wolfe issued five walks and struck out one. Joe Ingle worked the last two innings for his third save. He didn't allow a hit and fanned three while walking one.

Hunter Allen went 3-for-4 as ECU outhit the visitors, 10-3. Yorgen and Watkins each had two hits. Garrett Brooks also had a hit as the Pirates improved to 31-18 overall and 11-7 in the league.

A crowd of 3,012 saw ECU win for the eighth time in its last 10 games.

The Pirates control their fate in terms of the AAC regular season championship in their first season in the league as they head to Houston for a three-game series beginning Friday at 7:30 p.m.
