NORFOLK — Pinch hitter Parker Lamm of East Carolina doubled to score two runs with two out in the top of the eighth inning and lift the Pirates to a 4-2 nonconference win at Old Dominion on Wednesday.

Travis Watkins walked to start the eighth for ECU (22-15) and he moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Eric Tyler. Luke Lowery was intentionally walked before a pop-up to short. Jackson Mims walked to load the bases with two down.

Lamm doubled to left field to score Watkins and Lowery for a 4-2 Pirates lead.

Jimmy Boyd (4-7) picked up the win with two and two-thirds innings of effective relief. Boyd allowed two hits and struck out two.

After the Monarchs got a single in the bottom of the ninth to bring the potential tying run to the plate with two out, Nick Durazo came to the mound to close the game with a fly to center on a full count pitch.

Durazo got his first save.

Jacob Wolfe started and went six innings. He allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out one without a walk.

Hunter Allen went 3-for-5 at the top of the Pirates order with two runs scored.

Allen singled to start the game. Charlie Yorgen and Reid Love had bunt singles before Allen came home on a double play for a 1-0 ECU lead.

ODU (17-19) tied the score with a run in the second after a leadoff double by Derek Francis.

The Pirates regained the lead in the sixth after Allen singled up the middle to start the inning. A wild pitch allowed the ECU shortstop to move to second and Yorgen's ground out to second put him at third. Watkins singled through the right side to put the Pirates ahead, 2-1.

The Monarchs evened the score again in the bottom of the sixth as Zach Rutherford doubled and scored on a single by Connor Myers.

ECU outhit the hosts, 10-6, as Yorgen and Love each had two hits.

The Pirates resume American Athletic Conference play at Connecticut (24-13) on Friday with a 3 p.m. start. The Huskies won 18-5 at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI, on Wednesday.

ECU is 4-5 in league play. UConn is 5-4. Games are also scheduled in the three-game series for 1 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday..
