USF rolls past Pirates

TAMPA, FL — South Florida scored three runs in its first at-bat and went on to a 10-0 American Athletic Conference win over visiting East Carolina after a 75-minute delay on Saturday night.

Casey Mulholland (4-4) pitched eight innings of the shutout. He allowed seven hits and struck out 10. Brandon Lawson came in for the final inning and recorded three strikeouts.

Evan Kruczynski (5-2) started and went four innings for ECU (20-15, 3-5 AAC). He yielded 10 hits and seven runs, all earned, while striking out four.

Kyle Teaf doubled to left center on a full count pitch to lead off the bottom of the first for the Bulls (24-11, 7-1). Kevin Merrell singled up the middle for an early 1-0 USF lead. Levi Borders had a two-run homer to put the Bulls ahead, 3-0.

The hosts added four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

The Bulls totaled 14 hits off of four Pirates pitchers.

Hunter Allen was 2-for-3 to lead ECU at the plate. The Pirates left 10 runners on base.

USF took the series after a 2-1 win on Friday night.

ECU tries to avoid a sweep in an 11 a.m. start today.
