GREENVILLE  — Tulane defeated host East Carolina 7-2 on Friday evening in the first game of a three-game Conference USA series on Friday.

Jeff Hoffman (0-3) pitched six and one-third innings. He allowed seven hits, six runs (five earned) and had five strikeouts while walking two. Nick Durazo was charged with the Wave's final run. Freshman Davis Kirkpatrick checked Tulane with no hits and no runs over the last two and two-thirds innings.

Reynolds was 3-for-5 at the plate as ECU outhit the visitors, 11-7. Hunter Allen was 3-for-4. Houchins went 2-for-5.

The Pirates committed three errors while the Wave had one.

Tyler Mapes gave up eight hits over five innings for the win but kept ECU scoreless. Kyle McKenzie struck out five over the last four innings and picked up the save.

ECU's probable starter for the first game today is left-hander Reid Love, who has a 1-1 record with a 1.17 earned run average. The Pirates are expected to go with right-hander Brett Mabry (1-0, 1.12) for the second game of the doubleheader.
