CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — Virginia completed a three-game sweep of East Carolina on Sunday with a 6-2 win before 3,592 at Davenport Field.

The top-ranked Cavaliers improved to 6-1, scoring all of their runs with two out.

A four-run third inning started with a two-out walk to Joe McCarthy, who stole second. Brandon Downes, Derek Fisher, Matt Thaiss and Nate Irving had consecutive RBI singles to chase Pirates starter David Lucroy.

Ryan Williams came to the mound for ECU after Lucroy (0-2) yielded seven hits and four runs (all earned) with one walk and one strikeout in 2 2/3 innings.

Williams allowed six hits and two runs (both earned) with no walks and two strikeouts over the last 5 1/3 innings.

Starter Brandon Waddell (1-1) went 5 2/3 for the win. Whit Mayberry, Kevin Doherty and Nick Howard followed Waddell to the mound.

Doherty walked designated hitter Ian Townsend on four pitches in the ninth and was pulled. It was the second walk drawn by Townsend.

ECU had six hits with Zach Houchins going 2-for-4. Garrett Brooks, Luke Lowery (double), Dylan Brown and Hunter Allen also had hits for the Pirates (3-4).

The Pirates scored their runs with two down, too, snapping a scoreless streak that spanned 18 2/3 innings in the top of the fourth.

Houchins singled with two away and Lowery had an RBI double. Brown followed with a base hit to bring in Lowery before Brown was caught in a rundown.

McCarthy's bloop to right scored Mike Papi in the fourth for a 5-2 Virginia lead.

John La Prise had an RBI single for the Cavs in the sixth.

The Pirates will be back on the road Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game at Virginia Commonwealth.
