Owls rally tops ECU

BOCA RATON, FL  — Florida Atlantic scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge East Carolina 4-3 in a Conference USA game on Friday night.

Drew Reynolds (2-1) took the loss after walking leadoff batter Brendon Sanger in the eighth. A wild pitch allowed the runner to take second before a triple by Tyler Rocklein tied the score at 3. A single by Kevin Abraham scored what proved to be the winning run.

Tyler Bolton started and worked seven innings for the Pirates (25-18, 11-8 C-USA). Bolton allowed six hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out four.

Reynolds doubled and scored on a throwing error as ECU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Owls (22-19, 10-12) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. The Pirates pulled even in the second inning and went ahead 3-2 in the fourth.

Charlie Yorgen doubled in the second and Garrett Brooks had a single before Yorgen came home with the tying run on a sacrifice bunt by Hunter Allen.

Yorgen had a single and stole second in the fourth. Brooks singled before Hunter Allen's grounder to first brought Yorgen in.

The teams are scheduled to play the second game of the three-game series at 4 p.m. today.
