GREENVILLE  — East Carolina overcame an early 4-0 deficit with the help of Reid Love's pitching and Dylan Brown's hitting to deal UNC-Wilmington an 8-5 nonconference loss at Clark-LeClair Stadium on Wednesday night.

Love (3-3) delivered seven and two-thirds innings of effective relief after the Seahawks had taken a 4-0 lead in the second inning. Love allowed just two hits and one run (earned) with three walks and three strikeouts.

Drew Reynolds came to the mound to get the final out for his fifth save of the season.

Brown paced an 11-hit attack with a 3-for-5 effort that included a double and two RBIs.

The Pirates improved to 22-15 overall going into the start of a three-game Conference USA series at home with Middle Tennessee State at 6 tonight.

A two-run homer by Ryan LaGrange of the Seahawks was the big blow as the visitors took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. UNCW (17-19) added an unearned run in the second for a 4-0 lead.

Ian Townsend singled to right center to start a five-run fourth that put the Pirates ahead to stay. Luke Lowery drew a walk and the runners moved up on a passed ball. Charlie Yorgen had an RBI single to right field. Kirk Morgan's sacrifice fly pulled ECU within 4-2. Brown's two-run double tied the score at 4. Reynolds had an RBI single to left field that put the Pirates ahead, 5-4.

ECU added three runs in the sixth after singles by Yorgen and Brooks. Morgan's sacrifice bunt moved the runners up. A wild pitch allowed Yorgen to score and Brooks took third. A balk brought Brooks in. An RBI double by Zach Houchins scored Reynolds, who had walked and stolen second.

Houchins and Yorgen each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Reynolds threw two pitches in the ninth, getting a ground out to strand runners at second and third.
