Love's shutout completes sweep

GREENVILLE — Left-hander Reid Love pitched a
shutout as East Carolina completed a doubleheader sweep of
Maryland-Baltimore County with a 6-0 nonconference win Friday at Clark-LeClair
Stadium.
Jeff Hoffman worked seven innings in the first game for
his first win of the season as the Pirates prevailed 13-3.
Love (2-1) allowed six hits and walked one while striking
out six as ECU improved to 16-11 with its sixth straight win.
The Pirates outhit the visitors 18-8 in the first game
and 11-6 in the second game.
ECU was errorless for 18 innings.
Senior designated hitter Drew Reynolds and freshman
second baseman Charlie Yorgen were each 3-for-5 in the first game with two
runs scored and three RBIs. Zach Houchins contributed a 3-for-4 effort with
two RBIs.
Ben Fultz was 3-for-3 in the opener. Dylan Brown had a
pair of RBIs on sacrifice flies.
The Retrievers managed six hits off Hoffman. Their two
runs off the Pirate starter were earned. Hoffman allowed one walk and struck
out six.
Manny Colon homered for UMBC in the first game.
Houchins was 2-for-4 in the second game with two RBIs.
Luke Lowery hit his first homer of the season and had two RBIs. Hunter Allen
was 2-for-3 in the second game with a run scored.
The teams are scheduled to complete the rain-altered
series with a 1 p.m. contest Sunday. Right-hander David Lucroy, coming off
seven scoreless innings at Charlotte a week ago, is the
probable pitcher for the Pirates.
