The frontcourt duo of
Maurice Kemp and Robert Sampson dominated around the basket for the
second straight game, leading East Carolina to a 62-53 victory over
Georgia State Monday night in Atlanta.
Kemp, a senior forward,
scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Sampson, a junior forward,
had 12 points and hauled in 16 rebounds to help the Pirates achieve
success in their first road expedition of the season. The pair also
recorded double-digit scoring and rebounding performances in
ECU's 82-72 win last Tuesday over Appalachian
State.
Senior guard Shamarr
Bowden contributed 10 points in only 19 minutes of action as the Pirates
improved to 5-0.
ECU took the lead out of
the gates, scoring the game's first 8 points before two minutes had
elapsed. The Pirates led at the half 31-20 and did not allow GSU to get
closer than 7 the rest of the way.
Junior forward Manny
Atkins had 15 points and junior guard Devonta White added 13 to pace the
3-3 Panthers.
East Carolina dominated
the rebounding battle 47-26.
The Pirates continue their road swing on Saturday with a 7 p.m. matchup
against future Conference USA rival Charlotte. The game will be
televised in the Greenville market by WITN-TV 7.
