UNC-Wilmington battered a parade of East
Carolina pitchers for 13 hits and junior righthander Blaze Tart put in a
solid start as the Seahawks routed the Pirates 10-3 Tuesday evening at
Brooks Field.
Senior designated hitter Hunter Ridge went
4-for-4, freshman shortstop Terence Connelly went 3-for-3 and junior third
baseman Ryan LaGrange belted a home run to help UNCW gain the edge early and
build on its lead in the latter innings.
LaGrange's three-run, third-inning blast broke
a 1-1 tie and gave the Seahawks the lead for good.
Tart (2-1) limited ECU to one run on three
hits over 5 2/3 inning to gain credit for the victory.
Tyler Bolton (0-1) started for the Pirates and
was charged with the loss. The sophomore righthander was roughed up for four
runs on six hits and a pair of walks over four innings.
Senior outfielder Jay Cannon put ECU on the
scoreboard first with a second inning homer. But the 1-0 lead was
short-lived as the Seahawks responded with a run in the bottom of the inning
and three more an inning later on LaGrange's round-tripper.
ECU bused back to Greenville after the game
and will regroup to host High Point Wednesday at 6 p.m.
