HARRISONBURG, VA — After taking a 61-60 lead on two free throws by B.J. Tyson with 2:48 remaining, East Carolina didn't score the rest of the way in a 67-61 nonconference loss at James Madison on Sunday afternoon.

Poor shooting plagued the Pirates (7-5), who made just 21 of 61 field goal attempts for 34.4 percent.

ECU's leading scorer Caleb White had 20 points on six of 13 shooting behind the arc but the Pirates were 11 of 37 as a team on threes, 29.7 percent.

Neither team got to the line with any frequency. ECU hit eight of 10 free throws while the Duke (9-3) dropped six of eight.

Kanu Aja had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Pirates. Tyson had seven rebounds.

Tyson and Prince Williams each had nine points.

White and Lance Tejada each had three assists.

JMU got 23 points from Ron Curry, 13 from Shakir Brown and 11 from Dimitrije Cabarkapa.

The hosts made 14 of 26 shots from the floor in the second half for 53.8 percent.

A three by Curry with 1:34 left put the Dukes ahead to stay at 63-61.

The Pirates host South Carolina State (5-7) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
