Senior forward Maurice
Kemp produced 21 points and 11 rebounds and junior forward Robert
Sampson had 17 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to help East
Carolina defeat cross-state foe Appalachian State 82-72 Tuesday night in
Greenville.
Kemp's output marked the
third time in four games he has paced the Pirates offensively.
Senior point guard Miguel
Paul contributed additional firepower against the Mountaineers, scoring
14 points while dealing 6 assists.
ASU established a 4-0 lead
out of the gates on a pair of baskets by sophomore swingman Jay Canty,

Ty Armstrong and managed to maintain the advantage the rest of the way
against the Mountaineers' repeated challenges.
Canty had 25 points and
senior forward Nathan Healy added 24 points and 10 rebounds for
Appalachian State.
The Pirates led at the
half 38-33.
The win gave ECU its first
4-0 season start in ten years.
The Pirates hit the road for a pair of games next week, facing Georgia
State on Tuesday and future Conference USA member Charlotte on Saturday.
