Senior forward Maurice
Kemp scored a game-high 21 points and junior forward Robert Sampson had
14 points and 10 rebounds as East Carolina trounced Division III
Methodist 87-51 Tuesday night in Greenville.
Kemp made 9 of 12 field
attempts and 2 of 3 from the line to pace the Pirates offensively for
the second straight game. He led all scorers with 19 points in
ECU's 72-50 season-opening win
over Washington & Lee on Saturday.
East Carolina outshot the
Monarchs from the field 48.6 percent to 31.1 percent, but struggled from
long range, converting only 4 of 26 (15.4 percent) 3-point tries.
Senior guard Shamarr
Bowden helped ECU's cause with 9 assists.
Junior guard Akeem
Richmond's 4 steals helped spark an intense defensive effort by the
Pirates, who benefitted from 19 Methodist turnovers while giving up only
8 in return.
Junior forward Bryan
Hockaday led the Monarchs with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
ECU, which led 36-24 at
the half, didn't break the game open until the final 11 minutes of the
second frame.
The Pirates return to
action Friday night with a home game against UNC-Greensboro.
