ECU beats off Cobras

Senior forward Darrius
Morrow scored 25 points — including the game's first 7 and his team's
first 11 — to lead East Carolina to a 63-50 victory over Coker College
Thursday night in Greenville.
Morrow made three baskets
and a free throw in the first two and a half minutes to push the Pirates
ahead 7-0 coming out of the gates.
The Cobras (2-1) pulled
even on three occasions in the first half, the last time at 17-17 at the
9:03 mark, but never gained the lead.
Morrow finished with 16
first half points to help ECU (2-1) construct a 33-26 halftime lead.
The Cobras were unable to
close the gap closer than 5 points in the second frame.
Sophomore guard Julian
Nelson paced the Cobras with 14 points.
ECU junior guard Miguel
Paul and Coker junior center Austin Harper joined Morrow and Nelson in
double figures, scoring 10 points apiece.
Coker, which competes in
the Division II Carolinas Conference, is located in Hartsville, SC.
East Carolina travels to
Charlotte on Tuesday to face Appalachian State at Time Warner Cable
Arena at 7 p.m.
