Senior guard Jontae
Sherrod scored 26 points in his final college game and junior forward
Darrius Morrow had his fourth straight double-double, but the pair's
sterling efforts were not quite enough to extend East Carolina's season
past the opening round of its first postseason tournament since 1993.
After Sherrod's
3-pointer with 29 seconds left in regulation put the Pirates ahead
58-55, Jacksonville senior forward Aryon Hardy answered with a trey
to tie the game, setting the stage for the Dolphins to take command
in overtime and secure a 71-66 victory in a first round game of the
CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament Tuesday night in
Greenville.
East Carolina (18-16),
which last played a postseason contest in the first round of the
1993 NCAA Tournament, completed its first winning season in 14 years
with the loss.
Jacksonville (20-11),
which lists regular season wins over Florida and Auburn on its
resume, clinched its second straight 20-win season and advances to a
second round game on either Saturday or Sunday against a team to be
announced. [View

Sherrod's game-high
offensive outburst lifted his scoring average to a team-leading 15.6
per game.
Morrow, ECU's
second-leading scorer at 13.0 per contest, had 16 points and a
career-best 15 rebounds to go along with three consecutive
double-doubles he recorded in last week's
Conference USA Tournament.
Senior guard Travis
Cohn scored 18 points, Hardy finished with 12 and junior guard Tevin
Galvin and freshman forward Keion Palmer contributed 11 apiece for
the Dolphins.
East Carolina was
hampered by the absence of senior guard and career assists leader
Brock Young, out with a knee injury suffered in the C-USA tourney.
The Pirates never led
in the overtime period.
East Carolina's fellow
C-USA East Division member Marshall also lost its CIT opening round
game, dropping a 65-64 decision to Ohio.
Southern Methodist, of
C-USA's West Division, hosts Oral Roberts tonight in a CIT first
round game.
