Hurricane sinks Pirates in
second half

Junior guard Ben Uzoh
scored a game-high 23 points and was instrumental in a surge that
overcame a six-point halftime deficit as Tulsa claimed a 72-62
Conference USA victory over East Carolina Saturday night at the Donald
W. Reynolds Center.
A three-pointer by Uzoh to
open the second half started an 18-4 run that propelled the Golden
Hurricane (18-9, 8-4 C-USA) from the short end of a 39-33 halftime score
to a 51-43 lead at the 10:13 mark. Uzoh scored 7 points in the first
3:41 of the rally.
Senior guard Sam Hinnant
scored 21 points and freshman center Darrius Morrow had 10 points and a
game-high 9 rebounds for East Carolina (13-13, 5-8), which led by as
much as 10 points, 27-17, with 6:24 left in the first half.
Sophomore guard Justin
Hurtt added 17 points and junior center Jerome Jordan contributed 12 for
Tulsa.
The Pirates return home
for their second encounter of the season with Marshall on Wednesday
night (7
pm ET). The Thundering Herd (12-15, 4-8), which
defeated East Carolina
72-64 in Huntington on Jan. 10, will be coming into the rematch off a
57-51 road loss to Tulane on Saturday.
