Senior guard Antonio
Anderson scored 26 points and dished out eight assists to lead No. 18
Memphis to an 85-64 Conference USA victory over East Carolina Wednesday
night in Greenville.
Freshman guard Tyreke
Evans had 18 points and senior forward Robert Dozier added 11 for the
Tigers (17-3, 6-0 C-USA), who extended their winning streak against
league opponents to 48 games.
Sophomore forward Jamar
Abrams scored 18 points and senior guard Sam Hinnant had 11 to pace the
Pirates (10-9, 2-4).
Memphis won the rebound
battle 37-29, shot a season-best 54.8 percent from the floor and had a
season-low six turnovers.
East Carolina, which made
44 percent of its field goal attempts, turned the ball over 12 times.
The Pirates converted only 9 of 22 free throws, a paltry 40.9 percent.
The Tigers led 45-31 at
halftime and maintained a cushion of at least eight points throughout
the second half.
The Pirates travel to
Houston for a conference game with Rice on Saturday (2 pm). The Owls
(6-14, 1-5) couldn't protect a 14-point halftime lead against visiting
Tulane Wednesday night, losing 61-59 on a last second shot by the Green
Wave.
