East Carolina fell behind
to North Carolina Wesleyan 11-0 in the opening 3:37 but scrapped back
from the dismal start and eventually pulled away from the Division III
Battling Bishops 88-69 Tuesday night in Greenville.
Sophomore forward John
Fields scored 12 points to lead four ECU players in double figures.
Senior guard Cory Farmer and freshman guard Brock Young each each added
11 points and senior guard Darrell Jenkins contributed 10.
Senior guard Larry Hall
scored a game-high 19 points and had 4 steals to pace Wesleyan, which
also got double-figure support from sophomore guard Jarmel Arrington (12
points), junior forward Buddy Williams (10 points) and sophomore guard
Trey Drake (10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds).
The Battling Bishops (1-2)
clung to a 38-37 halftime lead.
East Carolina (2-2)
outscored Wesleyan 20-12 in the first 7:31 of the second frame to
establish momentum and a 57-50 lead.
ECU faces its first road
game on Saturday in a 7 p.m. matchup at South Florida.
