Wolfpack rallies past
Pirates

East Carolina's concerted
bid for a major upset on the road fell short Thursday night as N.C.
State gained control of the game in the final two minutes to defeat the
Pirates 64-57.
Junior Jeremy Ingram
scored 24 points — 18 coming on 6 of 11 shooting from three-point range
— and snared 6 rebounds to propel ECU's effort to beat the Wolfpack for
the first in 17 attempts. All 17 games between the teams have been
played in Raleigh.
Freshman James Dillard,
with 10 points, was the only other Pirate in double figures.
The Wolfpack shot 41.9
percent (18 of 43) from the floor and was outrebounded 34-31. But State
dominated at the free-throw line, making 21 of 31 attempts, while the
Pirates were only 2-of-9.
ECU made 43.6 percent (24
of 55) of its field goal attempts.
Ben McCauley's 20 points
led four State players in double figures. Gavin Grant scored 13, Brandon
Costner contributed 12 and Courtney Fells added 10 points for the
Wolfpack.
McCauley was State's top
producer on the boards, collecting 10 rebounds.
The outcome improved the
Wolfpack to 8-4 and extended ECU's losing skid to six
games. After winning four of their first five games, the Pirates are
4-7 heading into another road game next Monday at Wake Forest (2 p.m.)
East Carolina led at the
half, 36-29, and didn't lose the lead for good until Costner hit 2 of 3
free throws with 1:37 left.
