Spiders bite Pirates in
OT

East Carolina lost a late
second half lead and then lost the game in overtime to Richmond Tuesday
night at the Robins Center.
Ryan Butler sank a
3-pointer with 1:12 remaining in the extra frame to give Richmond a
65-63 lead and the Spiders (1-0) held off ECU (1-1) to claim the 71-67
win.
East Carolina, which
trailed at the half 34-31, surged back to lead by 7
on a 3-pointer by Cory Farmer with 5:21 left in regulation. The Spiders
whittled away at the margin and forced overtime with a 3-pointer by Dan Geriot,
knotting the score with 2 seconds remaining.
Over the final 9:01 of the
second half and through the overtime period, the Pirates missed 13 of 15
field goal attempts. ECU was also erratic at the free throw line, making
only 16 of 29 (55 percent) during the course of the game.
Peter Thomas led the Spiders with 16 points and Geriot added 14. Brian
Morris had 11 points with 10 rebounds and 8 assists, and Butler added 11
points.
Courtney Captain led the
Pirates with 22 points, Sam Hinnant added 13 and Gabe Blair recorded 10
points and 15 rebounds.
ECU returns to action
Saturday night in a 7 p.m. road game at UNC-Greensboro. The
Pirates will host Limestone next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
