BOCA RATON, FL  — East Carolina scored four runs in the first inning with two out and the Pirates went on to a 6-4 Conference USA win at Florida Atlantic on Saturday.

The outcome evened the series at a win apiece with the deciding game scheduled for noon today.

Zach Houchins singled to left field with two down in the top of the first and Ian Townsend followed with a single up the middle. Dylan Brown's RBI single provided a 1-0 lead and ECU (26-18, 12-8 C-USA) led the rest of the game.

Luke Lowery's home run to right extended the lead to 4-0.

Brett Mabry (4-1) protected the lead for six innings. He allowed one hit and was charged with three earned runs after leaving with the bases loaded on two walks and a hit batter in the seventh.

Mabry walked two and struck out five.

Ryan Williams allowed all three inherited runners to score but went the last three innings. The Owls managed three hits off the big right-hander, who earned his sixth save. Williams yielded three hits and one run (earned). He didn't have a walk and struck out two.

Brown went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Brown had a solo homer to start the third for a 5-0 Pirates advantage.

Brown singled in the eighth and a pair of FAU errors got him to third. Bryce Harman's sacrifice fly gave ECU a 6-3 lead.

Houchins and Townsend each had two hits as ECU had a total of 11 hits.

FAU (22-20, 10-13) had four hits and committed two errors.
