CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — Sophomore righthander Josh Sborz
struck out six and parceled out three hits over five shutout innings to set
the tone as top-ranked Virginia blanked East Carolina 4-0 Saturday afternoon
at Davenport Field.
Junior southpaw Reid Love went four innings and suffered
the loss in his first start for ECU, surrendering five hits and three runs,
two earned.
The Cavaliers recorded all the runs they needed when they
got to Love for two runs in the bottom of the third on Derek Fisher's RBI
single and Nick Howard's sacrifice fly.
UVa added more insurance with single runs in the fourth
and sixth to clinch the edge in the weekend series. The Cavs
nipped ECU
in Friday's opener 3-2.
Fisher, Joe McCarthy and Mike Papi each accounted for two
of UVa's 10 hits and each drove in a run.
Luke Lowery had two of the Pirates' seven hits. ECU
stranded 10 runners on the day.
The Pirates will try to salvage a win in the three-game
set when the teams face off today at 1 p.m.
