Threes scuttle Pirates
By The Associated Press
GREENVILLE — Marvett
McDonald scored 17 points, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, to lead
UAB to a 76-64 win over East Carolina on Saturday.
The defeat keeps the
Pirates winless in in Conference USA and against the Blazers, who have
defeated East Carolina (5-11, 0-4 C-USA) in all three previous meetings.
UAB, which led 40-31 at
halftime, connected on 10-of-18 of its 3-point attempts on the day.
Donell Taylor added 12
points and Marques Lewis scored 11 in a low-scoring game for the
normally high-scoring Blazers (13-4, 3-1).
The Blazers have scored
more than 100 points three times this season and came into the game
averaging 82.4 points per game — second in the league and 14th
nationally.
The youthful Pirates had
four players in double figures, led by junior Corey Rouse's
double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Moussa Badiane, ECU's only
senior, scored 15 points and sophomore Mike Cook and freshman Tom
Hammonds added 11 each.
ECU's next game is
Wednesday when the Pirates visit No. 19 Louisville, which figures to
rise in the polls after its 69-66 win at 18th-ranked Cincinnati on
Saturday.
The scheduled tip-off time for
Wednesday's game is 7:30 p.m.
