GREENVILLE — East Carolina senior left-hander Evan Kruczynski returned from a fractured leg sustained March 3 and pitched effectively for five innings but Central Florida completed an American Athletic Conference sweep with a 7-0 win Saturday.
Kruczynski (0-2) threw 65 pitches. He allowed three hits and one run, which was earned, while striking out two without a walk.
The Pirates slipped to 19-18 overall and 0-9 in league play going into a nonconference game at UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Joseph Sheridan (6-3) and Jordan Scheftz combined for the shutout for the Knights (26-11, 5-4). Sheridan started and allowed four hits over seven and two-thirds innings. He walked four and struck out six.
Scheftz held ECU hitless while allowing one walk and striking out two.
Wesley Phillips went 2-for-3 with a double in the leadoff spot to lead the Pirates offensively.
Travis Watkins and Luke Bolka also had hits for ECU.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the third. The visitors added two runs in the sixth, two more in the eighth and another pair in the ninth.
