GREENVILLE — Connecticut topped East Carolina 3-2 for the second straight game, taking the American Athletic Conference series with a 10-inning win on Saturday.
The Pirates (18-10, 0-2 AAC) try to avoid a sweep today in a noon matchup with the Huskies (15-9, 2-0).
UConn got a one-out single from Anthony Prato in the 10th inning. A wild pitch from Joe Ingle (3-2) allowed Prato to move to second.
Prato advanced to third on a ground out by Willy Yahn. Prato scored the deciding run on a single to left center by Zac Susi.
Bryant Packard had a two-out single for ECU in the bottom of the tenth before John Russell logged his ninth save.
Singles by Turner Brown, Travis Watkins and Eric Tyler (RBI) in the bottom of the fourth helped the Pirates to a 1-0 lead.
The Huskies scored twice in the eighth for a 2-1 advantage after a leadoff single by Keith Krueger. A walk to Prato finished the day for ECU freshman right-hander Trey Benton, who started. Benton allowed five hits and two runs, one earned. He walked two and struck out five.
Yahn greeted Sam Lanier with a sacrifice bunt that moved the runners to second and third. Susi had a sacrifice fly to tie the score. Tyler Gnesda had an RBI single to left to put the visitors ahead, 2-1.
Kirk Morgan had a pinch hit single for the Pirates in the ninth and Brady Lloyd pinch ran for Morgan.
A wild pitch allowed Lloyd to go to second and T.J. Riles’ sacrifice bunt moved him to third. Lloyd scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
Packard went 3-for-5 for ECU. Yorgen and Watkins each had 2-for-5 efforts as the Pirates outhit the Huskies, 13-8.
Will Montgomerie started and went seven innings for UConn. The Huskies right-hander yielded nine hits and one run, earned, while issuing one walk and striking out six.
Ryan Radue (1-2) picked up the win in relief.
