GREENVILLE — East Carolina pulled away in the second half to take a 68-48 nonconference win over Hampton in Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Tuesday night.
B.J. Tyson had 17 points as the host Pirates improved to 6-2. Andre Washington had 13 points, eight rebounds and blocked five shots.
Kentrell Barkley added 12 points and six rebounds.
There were four lead changes and four ties in the first half. The visiting Pirates trailed 36-28 after 20 minutes but were within 42-41 after a jumper by A.J. Astroth with 13:37 to play. ECU responded with a 17-2 run to take control.
Jermaine Marrow led Hampton (1-6) with 12 points and Trevond Barnes scored 11. Astroth had eight points and 12 rebounds.
Deng Riak snared eight caroms for ECU, which had a 44-36 advantage on the boards. Raquan Wilkins had six rebounds.
Jeremy Sheppard scored nine points in the win and Clarence Williams netted eight.
Tyson had five assists.
ECU made 25 of 49 field goal attempts, 51 percent, while holding Hampton to 28.1 percent (18-for-64).
N.C. Central (4-2) visits ECU on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Eagles have won four straight since opening with road losses to Marshall (81-69) and Ohio State (69-63), including a 62-52 win at Missouri on Monday night..
